Mifflin Street Madison, WI 53703 SUBJECT: • Endangered Resources Information Review(Log Number 93-269) Dear Mr. Kluko; The Bureau of Endangered Resources has reviewed the project area described in your letter of June 7, 1993 for the proposed clay borrow site in the Town of Blooming Grove. Our Natural Heritage Inventory(NIA) data files contain no recent occurrence records of Endangered, Threatened, or Special Concern species or natural communities, nor of any State Natural Areas for the project area in Section 1 of T7N R10E,Dane County. However, our data files do contain a historic record (generally, records that are 25 years old or older) of a rare species known to occur within the vicinity of the project site. Unfortunately, the Bureau does not have more current survey information documenting the continued existence of this species in this area. I am including this older record as an indication of a species that may still occur in the project area if appropriate habitat exists. A rare plant species that has been known to occur in this area is: • Pblyraysia rrallu(prairie paisley), a plant listed as Threatened in Wisconsin, ltas been known to occur in TSN R10E. This species prefers dry prairies, railroad right-of.ways, and dry, grassy banks along rivers. Blooming occurs from April through June. Comprehensive endangered resource surveys have nor been completed for the project area. As a result, our data files may be incomplete. The lack of additional known occurrences does not preclude the possibility that other endangered resources may be present. If the proposed clay mining activities will impact any of the habitats mentioned above, I would recommend that these areas be surveyed for this species. If prairie parsley or other tare species are located in the projecr's impact area, then construction timing and location may need to be altered to avoid impacting them.
