The 40 acre parcel that Dane County Public Works has purchased
(see attached map) was approved for use as a clay borrow site by the Town of Verona
and the Dane County Zoning and Natural Resources Committee during November 1991
and February 1993. Because one of the conditions specified by the existing CUP
(#1042) for this clay borrow site required that project be completed during 1993, Dane
County Public Works is requesting an a new CUP that will allow the work to be
completed during 1994. Due to the extent of the regrading that was required at the
landfill and also the extremely wet weather that was encountered during the 1993
construction season, excavation at the clay borrow site has not yet begun.
The Soil Conservation Survey for Dane County indicates that clay soils meeting DNR
specifications exist over this entire parcel. Test pits have been dug verifying the
quantity and quality of clay present on this parcel, and the site has been approved as a
clay borrow source by the Wisconsin DNR.
