The proposed yard waste compost site is located on <br /> approximately 9 acres of a 160 acre parcel owned by Dane County Public Works. The <br /> nearest residence is located approximately 900 feet to the south and is owned by Dane <br /> County. Several other residences are located to the southeast and southwest of the site <br /> along State Highway 19. The land is currently used for agriculture and is zoned A- <br /> 1(exclusive). Agricultural fields surround the proposed site. A rock quarry is located <br /> approximately 1700 feet to the south and a landscaping company is located approximately a <br /> quarter mile to the southwest. These current land uses will not be affected by the proposed <br /> compost operation. In recent years, Dane County Public Works has operated 3 DNR <br /> approved compost sites. At present the County is operating 2 sites: one is located adjacent <br /> to the closed Verona Landfill and the other is south of Madison at Lakefarm Park. The <br /> proposed Westport compost site will expand the County's yard waste compost program by <br /> providing a more readily accessible site for northeastern Dane County. Application has <br />
