Middleton-Cross Plains Area School
Commitment to Excellence
Gene A.Thieleke,Ph.D. 7106 SOUTH AVE.•MIDDLETON,WI 53562•(608)828-1600•Fax(608)836-1536 Alice Wilkens Mann
Superintendent of Schools Director of Student Services
Donna L.Moll,Ph.D.
Director of Curriculum/Instruction
Craig von Behren
Director of Human Resources
October 28, 1992 Thomas E.Wohlleber
Director of Business Services
Mr. William Fleck
Dane County Land Regulation and Records Department
210 Martin Luther King Blvd.
Madison, WI 53703
Dear Mr. Fleck:
This letter is a follow-up to our telephone conversation earlier today regarding the school district's
conditional use permit application for a new elementary school on Airport Road in the Town of
Middleton.
At the present time, it is the practice of the Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District to provide
transportation to students who would not normally be eligible for transportation due to their proximity to
school but who do not have sidewalks as a safe access to school. Therefore most, if not all, students
attending the new school would likely be eligible for transportation.
The school district is not aware of any state law dictating speed limits for roads adjacent to schools.
The district is committed to working with local municipalities to have safe speed limits in school zones.
A recent example of this commitment and cooperation was the lowering of the speed limit in front of
West Middleton Elementary School located on Mineral Point Road.
Time is of the essence in receiving the necessary approval for this site. The approval of the district's
request for a conditional use permit on a timely basis would be greatly appreciated. It is our
understanding that the district's conditional use permit application will be considered for approval by the
Zoning Board at their next meeting on November 10, 1992.
Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. Please call me at 828-1600 if you have any further
questions.
Sincerely yours, e-
titcg "
Thomas E.
