("Barnes") , the contract purchaser <br /> of approximately 16. 21 acres of land in the Town of Verona located <br /> between U.S. Highways 18 & 151 and Nesbitt Road. This land is <br /> currently owned by the Herrington Estate. Approximately 6 acres of - <br /> this land is intended to be rezoned C-2 Commercial to accommodate <br /> Barnes' building and equipment storage. Ten (10) acres of the <br /> property will be zoned A-2 and will house nursery stock, trees and <br /> bulbs. This matter will come before the Zoning and Natural <br /> Resources Committee on Tuesday evening, December 8, 1992. We urge <br /> your approval of the rezoning at that time. <br /> Barnes, Inc. has been in business approximately ten years and <br /> conducts a nursery stock, landscaping, landscape design and <br /> maintenance and snow removal business. It employs approximately 40 <br /> employees at its current location in the City of Madison. The <br /> company's headquarters building will be one story in height and <br /> 6, 000-10, 000 square feet in size. It is intended that the building <br /> will be nestled behind a berm and appropriately landscaped and <br /> screened from view from passing motorists on U.S. Highways 18 & <br /> 151. A majority of the site will be open and will be dominated by <br /> the greenery from nursery stock. This use will thus preserve the <br /> open space between the communities of Fitchburg, Verona and <br /> Madison. <br /> This matter came before the Town of Verona Plan Commission on <br /> November 30, 1992 and the Verona Town Board on December 1, 1992 and <br /> received no opposition. <br /> Barnes, Inc. has contacted the immediate neighbors to its <br /> proposed headquarters site and received no opposition. We believe <br /> that this use is entirely compatible with the highway frontage use <br /> and will meet any perceived needs concerning community separation <br /> and green and open space. For these reasons, we urge your approval <br /> of this proposal at your meeting on December 8, 1992. We will be <br /> there to answer any questions you may have at that time. If you <br />
