5082 Vienna Drive
Waunakee, WI. 53597
January 9, 1993
Dear Dane County Zoning Committee:
I'm writing to voice my concern over the Conditional use Permit, Item#19, C.U.P. #1041, since
I am unable to attend the meeting on the 12th of this month.
My concerns are the following:
The proposed area is at a very difficult stretch of Hwy. I. No matter where the driveway leads, it
would be dangerous. The two options would be: on the curve of Hwy. I, which is not a great
spot to be pulling in and out of a driveway. The crossing of Hwy. I when heading east is of
special concern. In the summer when the corn is high there is a blind spot where you will not be
able to see the trucks pulling out onto Hwy. I going east. The other driveway option is at the
Intersection of Hwy I and Easy St. This intersection is difficult as is without additional traffic
from big trucks entering and exiting the proposed site all day.
Also this is a school bus route for the children in the area, so there is a lot of bus activity 5 days a
week. These buses take Hwy I and Easy St. to our schools.
Also the traffic on Hwy I and Easy St has increased tremendously over the last several years,
due to increase numbers in family vehicles and school buses. But also, we have seen a huge
increase in truck traffic because of the two extraction site already using these roads, they are the
Payne and Nolan site on Hwy I. and the Westport site on Easy St. There are very few days that
go by that one does not get behind a truck going and coming home. These trucks not only go
slow but also the uncovered trucks do a lot of damage to ones car from their flying debris. We
don't need the extra traffic in this area!
My last concern is of an Environmental nature. The concern is of the stripping of a small area.
We already have two extraction sites within a small area. The thought of another extraction site
is preposterous. We need to plan for the future and not just let everyone do what they want with
their land just to make money.
Sincerely,
Helen Leggett JAN 11 1993
(608) 846-5187
FliECEiVED
ZONING .
