•
MINUTES OF THE DANE COUNT' BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT Page 1
• MEETING OF OCTOBER 16,1970
The Dane County Board of Adjustment met on October 16, 1970 at 7:30 P. M.
in Room 226(Circuit Court Branch IV), to conduct a Public Hearing as
published in the notice.
Present: Erickson, Holte, Dahlk.
Others present: Enger, Fleck.
•
Meeting was called to order: minutes of October 10, 1970 were corrected to
read; Mileage Erickson, 112, others regular. Minutes were approved.
Notice was read and the Public Hearing was opened.
1. Appeal by the DeForest Chamber of Commerce from denial of a permit to
erect a sign on a parcel of land located in the SW1 5E1/4 Section 13, Town
of Vienna. Permit denied because the Dane County Zoning Ordinance does
not permit the erection or installation of signs within 100' of an
intersection on a County Highway.
IN FAVOR: DeForest Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Dave Lund and Mr. Jim
Langetig; proposed sign will not be a traffic hazzard, will be strictly
directional, no advertising, will be elevated so as to clear semi-
driver's vision. It was pointed out that high banks already obscure
drivers vision and sign will be in back of this vision corner. Sign will
be illuminated at night but lights will be directed downward. It was
brought to the Boards attention that a previous Board of Adjustment had
granted a variance for the DeForest sign on US 51. Discussion followed.
OTHERS IN FAVOR : None
OPPOSED: Zoning Supervisor LIE voiced objection on the basis that the
sign would be a further distraction on a corner where there is already
an inherent traffic problem caused by the intersection and the entrances
and exits for the various business places at the corner. Also, if this
variance were granted, every other sign installer would want to erect
signs at intersections in the county on the same reasoning.
Letter introduced from the Dane County Highway Department stating
opposition. Letter from the Town Board of Vienna stating opposition.
TOWN BOARD: not present.
Mr. Lund requested time to contact the Vienna Town Board before a
decision was made.
to Appeal by Henry Maurer from denial of a permit to build a silo on a
parcel of land located in the SE 1/4 NE 1/4 Section 8, Town of Verona. Permit
denied because setback is less than required by the Dane County Zoning
Ordinance.
IN FAVOR: H. Maurer stated that this was the only location available for
the silo because of existing buildings and silos. Drawing presented.
OTHERS IN FAVOR: none.
OPPOSED: none.
TOWN BOARD: not present.
4.Appeal by the Bristol Lutheran Church from denial of a permit to build
an addition to a church located on a parcel of land located in the NE 4
NE4 Section 29, Town of Bristol. Permit denied because setback is less
than required by the Dane County Zoning Ordinance.
IN•1FAVOR: Ed. Solner, architect for Bristol Lutheran Church presented a
blue print of the proposed addition, asked a 91 variance in setback for
fhir— portico, main building will be in back of setback line.
OTHERS IN FAVOR: none.
OPPOSED: none.
TOWN BOARD: James Burnson. Chairman, as main building will not project
into setback area, Town Board is in favor,
