Re: Hydrogeologic Assessment Report
Proposed Sand and Gravel Mining Operation
Town of Oregon, Dane County
Dear Mr. Buglass:
ZGEO, LLC (ZGEO) has prepared this Hydrogeologic Assessment Report providing an
evaluation of Payne and Dolan's proposed sand and gravel mining operation to be located on
approximately 32 acres in the N Y SE 1, Section 36, Township 5 North, Range 9 East, Town of
Oregon, Dane County, Wisconsin. The hydrogeologic assessment was conducted to evaluate
potential impacts of the proposed sand and gravel mining operation on the local groundwater
system. The report was completed at the request of Natural Resources Consulting, Inc. The
hydrogeologic assessment consisted of a records review, telephone interviews, data evaluation
and report. The records review for this assessment included the following available materials:
• USGS topographic quadrangle maps for Evansville, Attica, Oregon and Rutland.
• Well construction reports for an area approximately 0.5 miles from the site: Dane
County - Section 36, and W Y2 of Section 30, Township 5 North, Range 9 East, W
' of Section 30, NW 1/4 Section 31, Township 5 North, Range 10 East, and
Green County— E ' and NW 1/4, Section 1, Township 4 North, Range 9 East.
• Well construction reports and geologic log (DN-1303-G,D) for the village of
Brooklyn municipal wells.
• Dane County Groundwater Protection Plan (DCRPC, 1999))
• Numerical Simulation of Groundwater Flow in Dane County, Wisconsin (WGNHS
Open File Report 1999-03).
• Hydrogeology of Dane County, Wisconsin, (WGNHS Open File Report 1999-04).
• Hydrologic Investigation Atlas, Water Resources of Wisconsin Rock-Fox River
Basin (Cotter et al., 1969) and the Pecatonica-Sugar River Basin (Hindall and
Skinner, 1973).
• Pleistocene Geology of Dane County, Wisconsin (WGNHS Bulletin 95, Clayton
and Attig, 1997)
• Wetland Inventory Maps for Dane County, T 5 N, R 9 E, and T 5 N, R 10 E,
1986.
• Soil Survey for Dane County, 1978, USDA-SCS.
Two telephone interviews were conducted. An interview with Dr. Ken Bradbury, Hydrogeologist
with the Wisconsin Geologic and Natural History Survey, was conducted on October 27, 2003 to
discuss groundwater quality. Mr. Robert Anderson, Director of Public Works for the Village of
Brooklyn, Wisconsin, was interviewed on June 10, 2003 regarding the village's water supply and
wellhead protection program.
Draft site development and reclamation plans for the proposed project prepared by Payne and
fhwDolan were reviewed as part of this assessment. The assessment did not include any on-site
