Durkee
DeForest, Wi. 53532
Dear Mr. Moore; ` i airt
CT 4f'f2bys°HY E'TIT 77F,
O E F OCEST ■ F$N32
As per phone conversation, I am writing to list some of my views on the
future development of our interstate corner. I sincerely hope that careful
thought will be given as to the whole plan, so that our business and the
existing businesses can be compatible with any new business that would come
in the future. This whole area can grow together with a good mix of additional
business.
I disapprove of the proposed "Flying J" truck stop for the following reasons:
1. Presently our area is on a well water usage system. I am very concerned
about the trucks spilling diesel fuel. It is very possible that our water
supply could become contaminated, leaving all in the area with no water. I know
for a fact that truck stops do have diesel spills.
2. I am concerned also for the added pollution that diesel fumes would add
to our area and to our community. We have enough in the area with trucks
traveling on the interstate system. But my concern is with trucks running
all night and day, parked in the area, when the weather is humid and stagnant.
I am sure as a health factor this would not be good for anyone.
3. We have presently quite a few truck stops within about a 20 mile stretch.
There are several on Highway 51, 1 on Highway CS and the Petro Stop on Highway
78. I would Believe that the truckers have a nice variety of stops to choose
from now. Do we really need another truck stop in the area?
4. It is a known fact that truck stops bring about prostitution and drugs.
Our community doesn't need this type of environment a%here near our boundaries.
5. Our current road system would prove to be inadequate. A major interchange
and road reconstruction would probably be needed and at whose cost?
Presently we have a few individuals interested in building a good quality
motel in our area. I would believe that this type of business would be of
great importance for the traveler and for the whole community. I also know
of other businesses looking presently on our corner that would be good for
our corner and a good addition for our community. Please give this careful
consideration as we all will be affected in the future. We all have an
investment in either owning a business or owning a home in the community. We
should all work together to build up thes area in a constructive way as to
make it prosperous to all in our community. Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
, Caliey/ica
James A. Fhlenbach
