•
7437 Red Bird Road
De Forest, Wisconsin 53532
January 13 , 1992
Ms. Shary Bisgard, Chairwoman
Dane County Zoning and Natural Resources Committee
Madison, Wisconsin
Dear Ms. Bisgard and Members of the Zoning Committee,
I know that I speak for many residents of the Town of Vienna and
the village of De Forest when I request that you vote "no" on
proposed zoning changes, ( items 8&9) for properties near the
intersection of I 90-94 and County Highway V.
We oppose the zoning changes in item 9 because we believe that a
facility as large as the proposed truck stop is not compatible
with the uses of nearby properties in the area, which are agricultural ,
residential and light commercial .
The large number of semi-trailer trucks and other vehicles that are
expected to use the facility daily will surely make traffic in the
area more congested and cause a real threat to public safey. We are
concerned about potential damage to the environment from chemical
spills ,and the difficulty of providing adequate police and fire
protection to such a facility. The noise levels and gas emissions
from the trucks will be disturbing, if not harmful to nearby
residents and others in the area .
The people of the town and village are unwilling to bear the cost,
( in millions of dollars) of highway and bridge improvements that
will become necessary as a result of the increased traffic from the
travel plaza .
We also believe that criminal prostitution and drug traffic will
become prevalent at the intersection if the travel plaza is built.
At this time we are opposed to the rezoning of land across from the
proposed travel plaza because we prefer to preserve agricultural
farm land for agricultural uses ,and for purposes of maintaining a
clean air and aesthetically pleasing environment in that area. We
would prefer to have rezoning of that area considered only after
proposed commercial uses of the property are publicized and
discussed .
Please forgive the informal nature of this letter . We wanted you
to be aware of our concerns before you vote.
Sincerel , _
`Fraula F. Christensen
