Z ..5228 •
r JAMES M. WILKIE, M.D.
8075 Old Sauk Pass
Cross Plains, Wisconsin 53528
608-831-5410
February 17 , 1992
Ms . Shary Bisgard , Chair
Zoning & Natural Resources Committee F[ , 2 - 1('
Dane County Zoning Department d.p..
Room 116 , City—County Building
Madison, WI 53709
RE: Zoning Petition #5228
Dear Ms . Bisgard ,
This letter is to supplement my oral presentation before the
committee in reference to the application indicated above .
While I did present most of the facts referable to our
application before the meeting , there were some points that
need to be added , especially in reference to the comments made
by the R .P .C. and their written evaluation of our application.
Unfortunately I did not realize there were going to be
additional questions coming up regarding the appliation or I
would have remained to answer questions . Referring to the
R.P .C. staff comments , the entire farm constitutes 180 acres of
which the parcel in question constitutes 18. 2 acres . The bulk
of our farm land is located on top of the hill where there are
only 50 acres of agricultural land appropriate for primarily
hay production and with some of the land actually not suitable
for any kind of agricultural activity even though land is still
classified as agricultural land by the assessor . A change in
this classification by the assessor is being contemplated .
The balance of the land on the farm consists of 90 acres of
forest land and the rest in either marginal forest or what one
would probably classify as wasteland . The 18. 2 acres is
located in the valley and is accessable only by road from our
farm on top of the hill . There is no access to it by
contiguous land because of the steep hillside adjacent to that
parcel . A total agricultural land on the farm has been used
for beef production in the past , but for the past 20 years has
been worked only by tenants who have raised chiefly hay , but
with the acreage in the valley corn has been a safisfactory
crop .
