Date : Feb. 4th, 1992 <br /> To : Dane County Zoning Committee <br /> Re : Petition # <br /> Prole ct : Country Trail Plat <br /> Purpose : Explain Project Goals <br /> Dear Committee Members : <br /> This 78 acre parcel is part of my home farm operation being a <br /> total farm size of 355 acres . I seek to change the use of <br /> these lands for the following primary reasons : <br /> 1 . These lands have steep slopes . The land runs from sandy <br /> knolls directly into bottom land soils . The hills dr,y-out <br /> too fast and the bottom ground never does . <br /> a. I seek to protect my better fields from the ever <br /> increasing urban run-off. <br /> b. Presently some 30 acres of this area is too wet to <br /> work at any season in the past five years . <br /> 2 . I seek to re-establish a permanent native state wetland <br /> and praire area . <br /> a . Create a waterfowl nesting and feeding ponds thru the <br /> S. C. S. conservation program using a series of "land- <br /> scrapes"-being shallow ponds 2-' 3 ' deep each being up to <br /> 1/10 acre in size . Location and design by S. C. S. <br /> b. Disrupt the existing field tile system to hasten and <br /> support the re-conversion to the wetland state and <br /> support pond levels . <br /> c. Expand my DNR wildlife habitat/ feeding program. <br /> 1 . Presently I provide cover,water and feed grains of <br /> surgum and corn standing rows as part of the <br /> D. N . R. / "Pheasants Forever" program which is the <br /> introduction of the wild Chtneese strain of <br /> pheasant-a very wary bird. <br /> d. Due to the presence of food & cover and the adjoining <br /> owners oak savanah clusters we now have a 10-12 bird <br /> flock of wild turkey ranging this area . <br /> e . NO HUNTING is now,NOR will be allowed on these lands. <br /> f . Institute a linial parkway system following the <br /> drainage ways . To serve primarily local public uses : <br /> 1 . Walk & jogging-ultimatly tied with Glacial Trail . <br /> 2 . Cross-country skiing . <br /> 3 . Saddle horse trail riding . <br /> 4 . NO WHEELED or MOTORIZED VEHICLES ALLOWED. <br /> 3 . Plan to safely accomodate both the present and <br /> foreseeable future urban run-off & storm drainage <br /> volume and rate from this Southern and Eastern <br /> water shed of the Village of Deerfield. <br />
