Page 2
1. WHO WE ARE:
We are a congregation composed of approximately 200
members who come from a wide variety of church backgrounds,
mostly Protestant. Our members represent a good mix of
communities : in addition to Waunakee, church members come
from Westport (20%) , Middleton, Madison, Windsor, and DeForest.
We are young families, marrieds , children, and youth and the
liveliest group of retirees anyone has ever tried to keep up
with! For example, Mrs. Lena Juvette (a widow for the past
40 years) still maintains her own Westport home, until recent-
ly mowed her own lawn, keeps a full schedule from morning to
night, comes to church every Sunday and will be 92 this month.
You'll find Lena's picture on page 7 of the attached directory.
As a church we are known primarily for two strengths we
seek to emphasize: the bonds of caring, sharing and mutual
support which characterize our life together, and our committ-
ment to make a difference for good in our world, both near and
far.
2. THE HISTORY OF OUR CHURCH:
First Presbyterian Church has been a strong force for
good in its community since its founding 114 years ago. To
this day, if folks are looking for volunteers for anything---
people willing to get involved and roll their sleeves up for
a good cause---they know they can come to the members of First
Presbyterian Church to find the help they need. Its current
site, a 66 ' x 165 ' lot in the original plat of Waunakee is
too small for any expansion. Thus , in September, the con-
gregation voted to move to a new site and building and direct-
ed a Building Committee to begin its search for a site. The
site under discussion would be ideal for our church and would
meet the most basic criteria for siting a church: high visi-
bility, adequate size (2 1/2 acre minimum, 3 - 5 acres consid-
ered ideal) , affordable, central to all church members , in the
hands of a willing seller, near residential areas, away from
industrial parks or heavy industry, ideal lot shape and topog-
raphy. No other available sites were found that met these
criteria, and we say this after an exhaustive search of 25
different parcels over a period of more than four months .
3. HOW OUR BUILDING WOULD BE USED:
Use of the new church would be at its maximum on Sunday mornings
at the worship hour.
Current average Sunday morning attendance : (2 services) 140
Facility usage: Daily usage by pastor and secretary
