Our home and <br /> property are located one property away from the requested airport. Having <br /> spent many hours in June-July on the telephone questioning (a) experts at <br /> the Federal Aernautics Administration in Washington, D.C., and Minneapolis <br /> and at the Wisconsin Board of Aeronautics and (b) administrators at the <br /> Dane County Department of Zoning and Natural Resources, we ask you to <br /> oppose #999 because the designated property is a poor choice for an airport <br /> and does not meet the standards in Dane County Ordinance 10.255(h)(2). <br /> Even the imposing of conditions by your committee on the Conditional Land <br /> Use Permit would not bring the application into compliance with the <br /> standards for the following reasons: <br /> (1) The designated property is surrounded by homes and farms, the <br /> safety, comfort, and enjoyment of which would be adversely <br /> affected by an airport. <br /> (2) At the last meeting of the Springdale Town Planning Commission, <br /> one pilot compared the noise from a single engine airplane during an <br /> air operation (take-offs, landings) to the noise from a lawn mower. <br /> But who would position themselves beneath a giant flying <br /> landmower? <br /> (3) Any airport on the designated property would substantially lower <br /> property values of nearby properties.
