hill from the Water Shed. This entitles us to stay off the Sand Hill or "Outcropping"
and also be observers of the Marshland.
The complaints of the Mucklers have gone from personal to environmental. We
still contend it really is sour grapes. They wanted to buy this land themselves. Tom
Muckler, in conversation with Carl Goodwiler, told him he could sell his house and get
a lot more than he paid for it. Now Mr. Muckler says Carl must have misunderstood
him. Complaints that we are building practically on top of them is wrong. Our house
site is located 110 yards from their fence line, with a hill in between. They won't be
able to see us. Tom told my husband, David, in a phone conversation that he
wouldn't allow anyone to build in Goodwiler's Valley, even Carl himself.
In reality, we are the ones who are concerned with the environment. The
run-off from Carl's gravel pit is currently washing away the "sandstone outcropping".
We have a plan and a desire to stop it. Each fall Carl's cattle graze on this same land,
trampling plants and making matters of soil erosion even worse. This will all come to
an end when we control the land.
David and I feel that Dane County is fully aware of the issues at hand and will
act accordingly. Existing homes these days are hard to find. In fact, ours sold in one
single day - such is the real estate market.
We have a great opportunity to become land owners in the country. Our
children can attend a school that allows them to be independent.
Everyone's backyard is becoming a little smaller these days. We believe it is
just as important to grow with each other as it is with the land.
Thank you sincere) ,
P-Lcs _ 4,,
Rita and David Witter
