.
.
. ^
,
.
4 -
gas marker for the 12" high pressure gas main along the
quarry on PD.
I was told by the people who do the blasting at the Wingra
quarry , that they will shoot approximately 200 - 3"
diameter holes, 50 feet deep with no problems to the
pipeline or water towers which are both much closer to the
Wingra quarry than the pipeline and water tower are at our
Cottage Grove quarry (minimum 1700 feet versus minimum 2800
feet) .
In addition our shots are much smaller ( 1670 lbs. total
explosive versus 46 VF x 3. 5 lbs. /VF = 161 lbs. x 200 holes
= 32,200 lbs. total of explosive) .
Before the Town of Cottage Grove Blasting Ordinance in
1986, we would shoot up to 200 holes at our quarry with no
problems to the 3 homes with wells , which are as close as
approximately 900 feet of the quarry.
I have letters attached from the 3 closest neighbors, Dave,
Angela & Jeff Bowers, Vic & Jan Horstmeyer and Jeff &
Rhonda Broukhorst. All 3 support our CUP request and feel
it is needed .
I also have a letter from the Dane County Highway
Department, attached , which indicates that they use
approximately 45,000 cubic yards (CY) of crushed rock
aggregate annually for roadway improvements and
maintenance. They use a figure of $.40/CY/mile for the
cost of hauling the crushed rock . If the sources of this
aggregate where further away, on average say 6 miles, the
County would spend 6 x $.40 = $2.40/CY x 45,000 CY =
$108,000.00 more each and every year in their budget.
All of. 'us as taxpayers would need to pick up this extra
cost.
In conclusion , I truly believe there are many advantages,
in approving our CUP request.
First, we will build a 15 foot high earth berm along the
West & South sides of our CUP area. We will plant grass
and trees on the berm and install a fence along the berm.
This will act as a sight & sound barrier for our
neighbors. In addition , we follow all the Federal , State
and Town of Cottage Grove regulations and conditions
regarding the quarry, which are very strict and provide a
very large SAFETY factor for the site.
I feel somewhat like a farmer, who has worked his land for
years with livestock and then developers buy up property
near him and now tell him he is no longer compatible with
his neighbors. In our case, the quarry was there long
before the pipeline, Village water tower & well and the
developers. I only ask for the opportunity to be able to
remove the rock on our
T.
r - -
