N
Wk. ,/ ,..i Dane County Regional Planning Commission
111, 1/.111V110,1111,
. 'rJ III Room 523, City-County Building, Madison, Wisconsin 53709 TeL 608/266-4137
111 Sao:.
om. Mai
MEMORANDUM
TO: Dane County Zoning and Natural Resources Committee
FROM: Thomas L. Smiley, Director ?`
Community and Regional Development Planning
DATE: June 24, 1991
RE: Zoning Petition 5087 - Town of Verona
Gary Werner , Dane County Project Coordinator for the Ice Age Park and Trail
Foundation, Inc. , has forwarded a letter discussing the relationship of this
property to the Draft Greenspace Plan. The Town of Verona Land Use Plan, as
amended in 1987 and adopted by Dane County as part of the Farmland
Preservation Plan, shows this parcel as a "rural non-farm" area, which allows
for unsewered development as noted in our comments at the public hearing. It
also shows the Ice Age Trail
g proposed to run along the eastern boundary of the
subject property.
On June 19, 1991 , the Dane County Greenspace Committee took action on the
study area and recommended the plan to the County Board for adoption as stated
in Gary's letter . Thus, we have the adopted Farmland Preservation Plan which
allows for the proposed development , while the Draft Greenspace Plan
recommends study of the area as permanent open space.
Since this area is currently under study and Mr . Burke has indicated
willingness to discuss sale of the property for public use, it appears
premature to proceed with the rezoning at this time. Some houses may be
compatible at this site, but specific homesites should be carefully reviewed
by Greenspace and Ice Age staff to insure compatible siting of the trail and
residential uses.
TLS: lel
RPC
