^
^.
2 7 \
O x
~//
Report on Zoning Investigations for Indian Mounds July 1990
To: Bill Fleck
Zoning Administration
From Larry A. Johns
DC Mounds Project
Dear Bill :
It presently appears that there may be a portion or remnant of a
mound in the area of Zoning Petition # 4809 & Item # 10 (see map) .
This site was checked on July 13, 1990 by Bob Wasserman (Mounds
Project Surveyor) , Alan M. Brown of the Watercress Park Association ,
Inc . , and myself .
The possible mound lies in a wooded area towards the Southeast end
of the property and has the appearance of possibly being an effigy.
Its exact outline was very hard to distinguish due to undergrowth and
the presence of historic contamination in the area Because of this
contamination it is entirely possible that this may not be a mound but
may represent historic earthwork activities. I plan to soil sample
this site very soon to make a better determination .
There is evidence that a mound group did exist at one time very
close to this site SHSW data indicates that the Sherlock MG (47
DA-102) was placed on top of the drumlin of which this site is a part .
At least one of the mounds described by W.G. Mclachlan in 1914 is
reported to be away from the main group near the bottom of the hill .
Mr. Brown has indicated that the Association has no plans to
develop in the area of this mound and that access to make a final
determination is assured .
JUL 1O
== + 'uw
H i|Y:_:.]
ZONING ON.
