(8) For a wall sign, the height shall be measured from the base of the building below <br /> the sign to the top of the sign face. The top of the sign may not be higher than the <br /> building on which it is mounted. <br /> 10.84 WALL SIGN REGULATIONS. <br /> (1) The space on a building wall that is designated to be the wall sign area shall be <br /> free of windows and doors or major architectural detail. <br /> (2) Wall signs shall not extend beyond the end of any wall or other surface to which <br /> they are mounted, nor shall they project more than 18 inches from its surface. <br /> 10.87 REGULATIONS PERTAINING TO NONCONFORMING SIGNS AND USE. <br /> (1) Signs existing prior to the effective date of this ordinance which do not conform to <br /> the provisions of the ordinance shall be nonconforming signs. Nonconforming signs <br /> shall not be rebuilt, altered or moved to a new location without being brought into <br /> compliance with the requirements of this ordinance. Routine maintenance of a sign is <br /> permitted unless the cost exceeds 50% of the current value of the sign, if the <br /> maintenance cost is more than 50% of the value of the sign said sign shall be <br /> considered rebuilt. <br /> (2) Signs advertising a nonconforming use may be continued but such signs shall not <br /> expand in number, copy area, height or illumination. New signs may be erected only <br /> upon the complete removal of all nonconforming signs. T,JE <br /> 10.88 VARIANCES. <br /> (1) Variances from the requirements of this chapter may be granted by the standing <br /> committee designated by the county board upon application to and payment of a fee <br /> to the zoning administrator. Variances are limited as specified in this section. <br /> (2) Variances may be granted from the maximums of height or area (but not both) <br /> for all signs regulated by this ordinance, except as limited by this section. <br /> (3) Variances to maximum of height or area may not exceed maximums specified in <br /> this chapter by more than 20%. <br /> (4) Variances may not be granted to maximum height, to maximum area or to <br /> minimum separation requirements for off-premise advertising signs. <br /> 10.91 APPLICATIONS AND PERMITS. <br /> (1) The application for a permit to install or erect a sign shall contain such <br /> information as required by the zoning administrator. <br /> (2) The zoning administrator shall issue a suitable identification tag with each sign <br /> permit. The identification tag shall be placed on the sign or on a support column in a <br /> location that is easily visible from the road or proximity of the sign. <br /> (3) Fees established by chapter 12 supersede all other fees established in chapters <br /> 10 and 78 of the Dane County Code of Ordinances. <br />
