January 3, 1990
To the Ag Environment and Land Records Committee
of the Dane County Board of Supervisors
City County Building Room 116
Madison, Wisconsin 53709
To All Concerned:
Since I am unable to be present at your public hearing on Tuesday, January 9, at 7:30 p.m. ,
because of a church meeting, I send this letter as my voice in the matter of Zoning Petition
#4668 - by Craig Hayes, agent for the Herrington Estate, related to rezoning an area of
approximately 40.1 acres along Nesbitt Road in the Town of Verona.
It appears increasingly difficult for those in authority to maintain a separation between
industrial, light commercial, agricultural, and residential land use. Spot zoning often
"just happens" because land owners perhaps are not vocal enough . . . or are too busy raising
families or caring for elderly to be able to voice their strong and rational objections to
this type of unorganized land use.
To approve Petition #4668, would be, in my opinion, a critical error in judgement. I
respectfully request the committee unanimously deny this petition and any other petition in
the future that may further endanger the long established residential development in the area
involved, as well as future residential land use if the agricultural land use is abandoned
by the owners.
Commercial development will increase traffic along Nesbitt Road, a relatively restricted
access roadway. The proposed new highway development will, it appears, even more severely
affect the private family residents and their children, when "on" and "off" ramps are
constructed to serve commercial access if rezoning is approved.
Let me ask each of you, would you, if you had a home in this area, want this type of
development in your neighborhood? If you have small children, you would be even more
concerned about commercial development.
There are industrial parks being developed in Fitchburg near by on McKee Road; The City of
Verona has an industrial park development near by. Why is it necessary to invade further,
an area that can, with your disapproval of this petition, be reserved for residential or
agricultural (farming) land use.
I beg you to protect the interests of those of us who have made considerable investment in
our homes and families by denying the petition before you (#4668). You can, by this bold
action, insure as much as possible, the private water wells in the area, the general health
of the natural water shed, and the peace of mind of all the people who have their homes in
the small communities generally known as Hillside Heights off Nesbitt Road, and Wendeliwood
off Fitchrona Road.
.ectful. • ,
c Selected Residents of '
Affected Area in Town of Verona
40(j- - 'bole
6379 verest Drive
JAN [ 3 1991 4 Madison, WI 53719
wr1
