Mme`.
/4371) -2 6-7
July 12, 1988
Mr. Thomas Solberg, Chairman
Town of Madison Town Board
2120 Fish Hatchery Rd.
Madison, WI 53713
Dear Mr. Solberg,
We would have presented this petition to you last evening at the
Town hearing, but decided that a photocopy was needed to present
at the zoning hearing this evening.
We think many pertinent points were made by Loren Rathert re the
homeowner-occuppied residential character of the neighborhood, the
number of small children in the area to consider when adding the
possibility of increased traffic, obviously the question of the
effects of water runoff, addition of more undersized, undesirable
rental units that would likely increase the problems already faced
by an overtaxed town police service, etc. (see Mr. Rathert's letter
dated July 6, 1988) . The professional comments by the UW architect
concerning the lack of thought in sight and building design, the
probable destruction of the western boundary tree line, and the un-
availability of specifics on the part of the developer, were valid
and well thought out.
The developer appeared unwilling to discuss a decrease in density,
or to commit to specifics on run-off, or a more suitable design for
the sight before rezoning would take place.
It is impossible for us as directly-concerned landowners to take
anyone's word that these contingencies will be made to the granting
of an R-4 rezoning. We feel that the contingencies must be agreed to
in legal contract before a rezoning to R-4 can be considered.
We have owned the property at 1505 Carver St. for a month short of
18 years, and have been directly involved with every proposal made
for the disputed parcel when we were notified of it.
