{
'
July 11 , 1988
TO : VERMONT TOWN PLANNING COMMISSION
and INTERESTED VERMONT CITIZENS
I am aware of the nature and content of the petition circulated by
residents of the Town of Vermont regarding the operation of Tyrol
Basin Ski Area . We who are involved in the Tyrol Basin Corporation
are in basic agreement with the thrust of the resident' s statement and
wish to state our willingness and determination to work with the Town
and the neighbors to ensure that Tyrol Basin is an asset to the
community.
The Zoning Petition and Conditional Use permits before you today are
technical in scope and were submitted not because we propose to change
the operation of the area from what it—fias been in the past, but only
because the County Zoning Department suggested the petition to ensure
technical compliance.
The B-1 zoning is so that the Ski Shop , which will sell gloves , hats
and the like , will be correctly zoned and the C .U .P . is to correctly
register the lighting under the ordinance.
We will change from recent past operation in one regard : we wish to
do a better job of limiting noise and litter and to reestablish the
area as a family area with local clientele and employees .
Our snowmaking equipment will be a modern electric system that will
not produce but a fraction of the noise that was the case with the old
gas powered equipment. All of our lifts will be converted to a
quieter electric operation .
Lights will generally be turned off immediately after the slopes are
cleared at 10: 30 p.m. We will be happy to attach shields to focus
light downward where ever possible , or to relocate or re-aim lights to
minimize glare . When snowmaking, it may be required to light
individual areas beyond the 10: 00 to 10: 30 lights off schedule , but
the area will close on schedule .
The tavern will close generally within 45 minutes of ski area
closure . Private parties such as wedding receptions could go beyond
this on occasion , but all consumption will be confined to the premises
and no carryouts are permitted under the license .
We will assist the Town in enforcing the parking regulations to keep
autos from parking on the Town road. We will , ourselves , cause any
litter to be picked up on a regular basis and as needed . We intend to
project and maintain a clean environment.
