24° 1/
December 7, 1988
Bill Fleck
Director, Agriculture, Environment
and Land Records Committee
Room 116
City-County Building
210 Martin Luther King Blvd.
Madison, WI 53709
Dear Mr. Fleck,
I am writing to address the zoning committee about a change
of zoning application that will be brought before a public hearing
December 13, 1988: Petition 4391, to have a parcel of land
adjacent to Lake Farm County Park near Lake Waubesa, now zoned
A-1 exclusive, changed to an R-1 zoning. Such a change will
allow the current owner to sell to a buyer whose sole interest
is subdivision of this land into lots of i acre and further
housing development. If the change in zoning is allowed and such
development occurs, the Williamson Mound Group--a cluster of
earthen mounds built by the Native American inhabitants of Dane
County centuries ago--may be threatened with destruction and
another bit of our aboriginal heritage will be lost forever.
Further housing development will compromise the rural surroundings
of the county park as well. For these reasons I urge the
zoning committee to deny the application for change of
zoning.
Sincerely yours,
Patricia R. Sanford
4161 Hiawatha Drive
Madison WI 53711
DEC 091988
ZONING DIV.
