There are five effigy mounds and one conical mound which
the State Historical Society is in the process of cataloging. By State Law (1985
stats . 157.70) it is illegal to interfere with these burial sites in any way.
This would make development difficult, due to the scattering of the mounds
through the property, These mounds are a continuation of Indian sites in the
nearby Lake Farm Park, They are part of a heritage which should he preserved.
I also recommend that this request for zoning change he denied because the
majority of the parcel in question is in wilderness condition. Furthermore, the
property is bordered on the south by undeveloped wilderness area. This was
donated to the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation for possible wilderness study
and research. Rezoning of the parcel would interfere with projected uses for
the adjacent land.
Thank you for your consideration.
Si cerelj
Or
,ohn .
