•
•
Suite 124
.. r
CREATIVE RESOURCE VENTURES LTD. 1406 East Washington Ave. Phone:608-255-3133
Madison, WI 53703
January 28, 1986
Dear Committee Members:
Re: Speedway Sand and Gravel proposed quarry operation, Section 8, Town of
Middleton, Dane County.
This letter is a follow-up to your site visit on January 27, 1986, at the
proposed quarry location.
First, on behalf of Mr. DeBeck and Speedway Sand and Gravel, we wish to
thank you for your efforts to visit the site. Visits like this allow
you, as county officials, to get a first hand view of a proposed project.
At our meeting on site, several questions were raised which deserve
answers in writing, so that you may consider your decision fully.
1. Is this application premature?
(This question was asked relative to the lack of information on
landfill effects at this time.)
No, the application is actually a re-application for a
permit which existed for 4 years to quarry sand, gravel,
and rock at the site. Quarrying was done, but the
conditional permit expired and was not renewed in a timely
fashion. The new application calls for blasting but, as
explained, blasting may or may not be needed, depending on
rock type and structure. Blasting permits were requested
in the event they were needed to make the application
complete. If no blasting is needed, no effect on the
landfill should occur. If blasting is required, it will
be needed well after additional information on leachate
and gas are collected, analyzed, and blasting effects are
evaluated. Whether Speedway Sand & Gravel blasts or not,
information on gas and leachate will be collected and
evaluated.
2. Concerns were expressed by neighbors on surface water effects
by quarrying?
As explained no more or no less water will enter the
lowland and headwaters of the Black Earth Creek south of
the site. Further, if water infiltrates in the quarry
1061.01:JAJ:debquarry
