Schaeffer, Adm. <br /> Division of Hwys & Transportation Service <br /> 4802 Sheboygan Ave. <br /> Madison, Wisconsin 53705 <br /> Dear Mr. Schaeffer: <br /> Recently we requested that the field access road rite we have off of <br /> Hwy. 12 & 18, section 30 Cottage Grove Twp. , be made a legal rite of way, <br /> se we could build a house on the hill on our property. We are enclosing a <br /> copy of this letter. <br /> Mr. Wambach just sent us a letter denying this request. That letter also <br /> enclosed. The present house on the farm has many problems, including <br /> water problems. Ever since 12 & 18 relocated and the golf course was <br /> shaped and established, there is no longer proper drainage and we are <br /> having problems. This would be eliminated, if we could build on the hill. <br /> As you know, it's very costly to build across cropland. First of all, it <br /> would require the loss of more cropland. Secondly, it would require a <br /> substantial amount of fill, plus a good solid bed of stone or rock, before <br /> a gravel or tar covering. The cost of this, for the length from AB to the <br /> hill, would make it almost impossible to build. Using the present field <br /> access would eliminate much of that cost, plus only a very small amount <br /> of cropland would be taken and that at the edge of the field, not thru <br /> the center, causing a hazard to the person operating the cropland. <br /> Again, where our field access is, is an area where you can see left and <br /> right onto Hwy. 12 & 18, better than even at the AB intersection.
