• <br /> •—____ McMANUS LAW OFFICES <br /> COUNSELORS AND ATTORNEYS AT LAW <br /> 4136 RUTLAND-DUNN ROAD <br /> OREGON,WISCONSIN 53575-2412 <br /> PHONE 160131257 7103 <br /> JACK McMANUS <br /> DENNIS J.SIEG September 10 <br /> EDWARD WJFALKNER P , 1986 <br /> JAMES SCHERNECKER <br /> KIM E.JOHNSON <br /> (PARALEGAL) <br /> David Weiman <br /> 6031 Lawry Court <br /> Oregon, WI 53575 <br /> Dear Dave: <br /> I don' t know the exact caption to use on <br /> the committee you are going to appear before on <br /> your airport but you have my permission to file this <br /> letter with any appropriate Governmental agency as <br /> I am unable to be at the meeting on September 11th. <br /> Therefore, the balance of the letter would <br /> be addressed to the appropriate Governmental authority. <br /> My name is Jack McManus and for almost 30 <br /> years I have operated an airstrip in the Town of Dunn, <br /> Dane County, Wisconsin. <br /> Of course, safety should be approached in <br /> the same spirit as we do for automobiles, farm machinery, <br /> snowmobiles and other machinery or vehicles. <br /> The law has been well settled for many decades <br /> that aviation in of itself is not a hazardous activity. <br /> This can be well proven by the millions of people that <br /> fly airlines and private planes every day. <br /> Therefore, any attitude toward airplanes as <br /> being "dangerous" is outmoded and not supported by the <br /> facts or the law. <br /> The Federal Government and the State have <br /> certain regulations and rules relating to the ownership <br /> and operation of airplanes and it would be my opinion <br /> that Mr. Weiman would obviously obey those rules and <br /> regulations or he would not continue to have himself <br /> licensed as a pilot or his airplane licensed to fly. <br /> It should be noted that airplanes as distinguished <br /> from other vehicles must be inspected once a year by <br /> a Government licensed and certified mechanic and <br /> certified as being safe. We don' t have that requirement <br /> on other types of vehicles. <br />
