Matthews
Chairman
Box 1032
Madison, WI 53701
RE: Conditional-Use Permit #506 (WEIMAN AIRSTRIP)
Ladies F Gentlemen of the Board:
In reviewing Mr. David Weiman's request for a conditional-use permit (#506)
and your reasons for denial, I encourage you as decision makers not to discrim-
inate against aircraft because they may be perceived as a "different" form
of transportation. Aircraft -- whether used for business or pleasure -- share
an equal value in transportation and recreation.
Futhermore, I encourage the Dane County Board to be receptive to the development
of private &J personal-use airstrips as being proposed by Mr. Weiman, and
not create unnecessary obstacles for which to overcome since ^it is a
"different" use of the land.
Criteria is built into Federal Aviation Regulations to safeguard the public's
interest, and the aviation community is sensitive to the concerns of the general
public.
Relative to concern raised with neighboring property values and the resale
worth of those properties, our organization has found that the resale value
actually increases when an airstrip is established in an area.
Additionally, a "country airstrip" as being proposed here by Mr. Weiman will
have no affect on the enjoyment of the area by others.
On behalf of our more than 100,000 members worldwide, I encourage you to
give this request your full and fair consideration.
Please note that I have relayed this letter of support via telephone to
our offices in Oshkosh as I am in Nevada officiating the Reno Air Races
this week. My regrets for not being able to personally be present.
Very truly yours,
Paul H. Poberezny
President
Experimental Aircraft Association
