distance of about 57 feet to the highway centerline. It is noted that 57 feet would still be beyond the cemetary line which is about 41 feet from the centerline or 8 feet from the right of way line. It also appears that there maybe other non-conforming uses in the immediate neighborhood. A hardship situation exists because of existing parking lot on the entire east side and north end of the building. We are further restricted on the north side of the building because this would be the proposed location of the septic system. In addition, on the west side of the building, the cemetery is within 10 feet of the structure. See attached site plan for identification of these features. In summary, the existing building has been in existance since before the turn of the century and there is little recourse available to the congregation. Larger, improved access to the worship area is not possible except on the south end of the building. Expansion to the east or west is limited by very limited parking area on one side and cemetery on the other. Public safety can be improved by correcting a narrow stairway to the basement and alleviate crowding. Office space will improve the oapability of the congregation to hire a secretary. The proposal will provide additional space for classroom and fellowship purposes. More importantly, the congregation can better accomodate public activities. Some of these features can be accomodated along the side or on the north end of the church, but only the south end accomodates all the features: Without a variance the congregation can not provide a very important need, that is, the larger narthex. Therefore, we respectfully request the Board of Adjustment favorably consider this request for variance. Please let me know is additional information is needed.
