PECHMANN
CHMANN MEMORIALS `'
GRANITE - MARBLE - BRONZE
4019 HAMMERSLEY AVENUE HWY. 51 N. & ACKER ROAD
MADISON, WISCONSIN 53705 MADISON, WISCONSIN
RES. - 233-0635 SHOP & DISPLAY - 249-8178
February 24, 1984
RECEIVED
Dane County Zoning Committee
Room 116 City County Building FEB 27 1984
210 Monona Avenue
Madison, Wisconsin 53709 DANE COUNTY
ZONING DEPT.
Attention: Mary Weisensel
Dear Ms. Weisensel,
We hope that this letter will help to point out our many
concerns regarding a Country and Western Tavern to be located at
highway 51 and Acker Road.
The memorial business requires a setting to give people
a quiet and respectful choice for a memorial. They do not need
parking problems, driving in congested areas, or putting up with
large crowds and loud music. We have been at this location for
over 14 years, payed our taxes when due, and have cooperated
fully with those on the area boards when we have improved our
property. Now, because somebody wants to come in and open a large
scale, beer only tavern, we will be forced to spend our hard earned
money to protect our business and property.
Located on our property are over 350 memorials at a cost of
over $32,000.00. When somebody comes in and damages one or more of
them, the following will happen. The damaged memorial can not be sold.
It will have to be crated and shipped back to the supplier for
re-cutting and re-polishing. This process can take up to 8 months
becaues many of our memorials come from other countries all over
the world. What happens when a customer comes in to purchase that
particular memorial and it is damaged? Most probably we will lose
the sale because the customer will check to see which dealer has
that same memorial. When a customer has chosen a memorial, they
do not want to wait 6-8 months for the installation. Many of the
memorials that we finish during the winter time, are stored outside
until they can be installed. These completed memorials are expected
to be installed by Memorial Day. If some outside individual damages
one of these completed memorials, we will not only be losing the cost
of the memorial, but also our cost of workmanship involved. Our
business depends on "word of mouth" advertising. People who have
had trouble with their memorial, whether it be vandals or a delay
in the setting, will probably not recommend our business to relatives
and close friends. This alone, would have a major effect on our
business. Memorials have always been the target of vandalism.
d P 4
