County of Dane
Zoning Department
March 6, 1984
Page Two
The above-described parcel is owned by Emery G. Fink
and is identified by Tax Parcel No. 05-14-298 . The area proposed
to be rezoned is 15. 8 acres. Wingra Stone Company has a long
term lease of this site until 1999.
II. PROPOSED USE OF THE PROPERTY
Wingra Stone Company, Inc. has operated a limestone
quarry operation on the above-described real estate since March
1979. (Permit No. M79-41) . Substantial quarry operations have
taken place in the eastern part of the site. Wingra Stone
Company, Inc. wishes to continue to exploit the remaining por-
tions of this limestone quarry and, therefore, must obtain a
renewal of its existing conditional use permit.
Wingra Stone Company will recommence limestone quarry
operations as soon as its application and rezoning petition are
approved. Based upon its preliminary estimates, Wingra Stone
Company will need approximately fifteen years to completely
quarry the site. It is expected the site will be abandoned in
the year 1998 and reclamation will be completed within one year
after abandonment.
The operation of the site will conform to the existing
mineral extraction ordinance requirements. The topsoil from the
excavation site will be stored in earthern berms near the site
for use as natural screening. (Please see attached Site Plan
Map) . Wingra Stone Company does not intend to use or dispose of
any water in these limestone quarry operations . Excavation will
not be made at or near the existing water table. Any excavations
to be made below the grade of adjacent Highway 78 shall be set
back in compliance with existing Dane County Zoning Ordinances
governing such excavations. The only structure to be constructed
on the site will be a small truck scale. (See attached Site Plan
Map) . The required building or zoning permit will be obtained
before constructing this truck scale.
