• <br /> • <br /> • <br /> • <br /> 'fertility to that capable of establishing a high yielding alfalfa crop. <br /> After the alfalfa has been established, a soil test will be taken on <br /> an annual basis and a maintenance application of fertilizer will be <br /> applied as needed in order to sustain high productivity. <br /> Seeding <br /> The entire borrow area will be seeded with alfalfa at a rate of <br /> 10 to 12 pounds per acre using standard agricultural practices. <br /> A companion crop such as oats will be seeded in conjunction with <br /> the alfalfa to protect the soil from erosion and to aid in <br /> establishing the alfalfa seedings. <br /> Care and Maintenance <br /> The alfalfa crop, once established, will be allowed to remain uncut <br /> for a period of one year. Following the one year period of undisturbed <br /> growth, the crop will be inspected and a determination made as to when <br /> a first cutting should occur. <br /> The site will also be inspected on a routine basis to assess its <br /> erosion potential. Any eroded areas will be backfilled, smoothed <br /> and reseeded. More extensive erosion control practices will be <br /> used on an as-needed basis. <br /> 4 <br />
