The property proposed for conditional use is zoned
County A-1 Agriculture District. A-1 permits as a conditional use
the proposed use.
On March 9, 1984, the Board of Regents of the University of Wisconsin
System adopted a resolution authorizing a use permit to Wisconsin For
Research for approximately 30 acres of land owned by the University
of Wisconsin, known as the Mandt Farm, to construct a candelabra television
tower and temporary television tower and related facilities, together
with access for vehicles and utilities.
T1e anticipate that the candelabra tower will house four UHF antennas.
Three of the channels (Madison Channels 15, 21 and 27) are currently
operating. In addition, it is anticipated that the three towers
currently housing these antennas will be dismanteled after construction
of the candelabra tower is completed. The fourth channel, recently
approved Channel 47, is not on the air at the present time. However,
in order to facilitate timely operation of Channel 47, a temporary
tower will be constructed that will be located in close proximity
to the proposed candelabra tower. (see attached survey for location) .
When the candelabra tower is completed, it is anticipated that Channel
47 will dismantle and remove their tower and house their antenna on the
candelabra tower.
The candelabra tower will be designed to accommodate a maximum of four
(4) UHF television antennas, eight (8) FM antennas and various other
types of communication antennas. The height of the towers and elevation
of the sites are as follows:
Fostering University and Industry Cooperation in Wisconsin
