February 19 , 1988
Mr . William Fleck
Dane County Zoning
Room 116 , City County Building
Madison, WI 53703
Dear Mr . Fleck:
This letter is in response to the potential conditional use permit for
Kirk Gillespie at 4586 Baxter Road (NW,SW Sec 2) in the Town of
Cottage Grove. I own the home directly across from the tavern and
developed portion of the Gillespie complex and would be more directly
impacted by new development/activities than any other area residence.
Let me preface my remarks by saying that the Gillespie development as
it currently exists was in existence when we purchased our house so we
would have little reason to do anything but support their operation as
such. We also would like to see their business survive and prosper .
We feel justified in commenting only on rezoning or additional
development or activities beyond those currently in existence and
those which would have an impact on us .
Certainly the addition of high level lighting for ball fields and the
extended hours of outdoor activities would fall into that category.
Our livingroom and bedroom windows face onto Baxter Road and the area
where such activities would presumably occur .
In view of these factor, we ask that the Zoning Committee:
1 . Grant a conditional use permit to Mr . Gillespie
2 . That the permit contain the following provisions:
• adequate on-site space for and and all parking
necessary to accommodate activities including ball
tournaments, band concerts, etc.
• that hours of outdoor activities and any related
lighting be confined to the following:
a) Sunday through Thursday: 10 p.m.
b) Friday and Saturday: 11 p.m.
• we ask that baseball tournaments and other
outdoor activities not begin before 10 a.m.
