A
VERONA AIR PARK 14Y 7
6654 Grandview. Road
Verona, WI 53593
February 3 , 1988
t'14111g
Dane County Agriculture, Environment
and Land Records Committee \`~
Room 224 , City County Building
Madison, WI 53709
RE: Brooklyn Airport , Inc. Request for
Zoning of a Private Restricted Airport
Petition No. 4175
Gentlemen:
I attended a presentation at Oregon Township Hall on February 2,
1988 , 8:00 p.m.
After listening to the presentation and discussions and objec-
tions by the two neighbors , as a licensed Land and Sea Commercial
Pilot, Flight Instructor of over 45 years and as an airport owner
and operator for over 30 years , I find two things objectionable:
(1) The airport is being misrepresented and its intended use
is being mispresented. Mr. Mischler tells us that we have
nothing to worry about -- aviation is in bad shape etc. and
would not expand the airport. However, he is asking for a
commercial zoning to put up a shop to repair airplanes . This
would hardly make this a restricted use airport. He claims to
have a 19-member club of which he is one member -- yet he
knows nothing of their plans and feelings . I ask the Committee
members ; can any of you hire a man or have him invest in making
a decent living maintaining 19 airplanes? Of course, each
club member does not have an airplane. In fact, less than 10
airplanes exist at Brooklyn. So, therefore, other aircraft are
going to have to come from somewhere, which brings us to the
second objection.
(2) This airport will be in fact an open to the public airport.
The repair shop operator , probably Mr. Mischler , a former
Fitchburg repair shop owner and owner of bankrupt Rotoraire
Helicopter repair shop, will need to draw other aircraft to
support the repair shop. He will have to issue the Invitation
to any and all in the blue sky to come see and use his repair
shop. When he does this , it will in fact be an open to the
public airport. No one will be denied access , of course.
The proposed N.E.-S .W. runway will pass directly over the
objecting homeowner' s property. As an airport operator, I can
understand their objections .
