- 2 -
Mr. Mischler claims the airport is dangerous as it is and must
be expanded -- yet it has been used as a small club airport for
approximately seven years . 1980 aerial photos do not show much
of a runway , if any.
As a pilot of over 45 years , as an airport owner-operator of
over 30 years , I'm not comfortable with what I heard at the
Oregon meeting. I do not think it is in the best interests of
General Aviation to request something that you represent one
way when you really intend to do something else.
I feel the Township of Oregon was being very fair and tolerant;
I felt the homeowners felt quite helpless .
I regret that I have to write this letter, however, the actions
of this Zoning Committee also affect me and my established
airport of over 28 years standing. The actions are on the
presentation and it is very clear this cannot be a private-
restricted use airport any more than Madison' s Kaiser Ford is
a non-commercial neighborhood automobile hobby shop. The
citizens of Dane County, Oregon and Brooklyn should understand
that and it should be presented as an Open to the Public Airport.
The request is deceptive as it stands . I believe in the interests
of the neighbors , serious consideration must be given to zoning
one acre commercial if , indeed, Oregon Township Board wishes to
keep the control they expressed at the February 2 meeting.
I don' t really think they thought this whole problem out even
as it was presented. In fairness , they did not wish to restrict
commerce and industry. However, commerce on a private-restricted
airport will mean it is no longer a private restricted airport.
However, in the Brooklyn Airport' s defense, it certainly does
seem that Dane County Zoning is overly concerned with Brooklyn' s
perceived problems when Madison has a House of Ill fame - The
Shady Lady, with over $440,000.00 in zoning non-conforming fines
unpaid during or exceeding the same period of time approximately
7 - 8 years of Brooklyn' s airport existence. Of course, an
airport will never generate the unreported funds that a house
of Ill Fame will!
Perhaps this should be returned to Oregon for a second look!
Sin erely,f i j
4f147
`OD SL• TE , Owner
Verona Air Park
cc - Wisconsin Bureau of Aviation
D.
