Paulson. Our concern is
two-fold . First of all , when Mr. Paulson bought his entire parcel of
land for a sand pit last year , the neighbors were quite upset in that
we already have several sand pits either abandoned or operating in the
area. A compromise was finally reached between Mr . Paulson and the
neighbors, one of the main issues being that he would work together
with the other sand pit operators to fill in the extremely dangerous
and unsightly pits. The first pit to be filled was to be the large
ugly one on Hwy. Q. Since that time Mr . Paulson has had some
problems with that particular sand pit operator , and as a result that
pit will not be filled. No matter what the reason , Mr. Paulson is not
living up to his end of the bargain , as he gouges more and more sand
from his pit . In addition , the company that is working the new Paulson
pit previously operated on the James Tierney farm, and last year at
this time they were here because they had been operating that pit
illegally. Westport Sand and Gravel agreed to several things in order
to get a legal conditional use permit , all concerning a future plan
for reclamation of all the pits they had dug. At this point , they
have cleaned up one of the old pits but not completed the restoration ,
and they are dumping a little into the remaining pits on Oncken Rd .
The problem is that they walked away from the pit they were operating
illegally to work for Paulson before the conditional use permit ever
came into effect . What the neighbors are now concerned about is what
can we do to get these pits completed as had been promised. We really
seem to have no control over the old pits of the Tierny property, and
