JAMES and NANCY MURPHY
8205 KLEVENVILLE-RILEY ROAD
VERONA, WI 53593
June 30, 1999
Dane County Planning and Development
City-County Building
210 Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd.
Madison, WI 53709
Re: Conditional Use Application
Ladies and Gentlemen:
We are writing this letter in support of our application for a
Conditional Use Permit for the property we own at 8205
Klevenville-Riley Road, Verona. We have owned this property
since December 1991 and operate the Riley Tavern. A tavern has
been operated at this location for over 50 years.
The property is currently zoned C-1, Commercial District. We are
requesting a Conditional Use Permit to allow certain activities
10.'3 (2) to take place. Specifically, the Conditional Use Permits
(c requested would allow the following: (1) extension of the
( existing tavern; (2) outdoor entertainment open to the public;
and (3) games such as horseshoes, volleyball or similar
( a) activities lighted to operate at night.
We are in the process of building a structure at the back of the
property primarily for a garage for personal uses. However, we
would like to use a portion of the structure as an expansion of
the tavern. This would permit food service and sales of
individual beverages during those times of the year when outdoor
entertainment activities are provided. We would like to hold
outdoor entertainment activities which are open for the public.
Specifically, this would involve the Riley Fest which is held
annually. In addition, during the summer months, monthly
bluegrass jam sessions can be held outdoors. Finally, games such
as horseshoes and/or volleyball activities might be conducted on
site and although most of these activities would be conducted
during daylight hours, we would like to have lights installed for
limited nighttime activity.
