Stokely U.S.A. Inc. is a food processor with plants <br /> located throughout the state. Anproximatelv 4500 acres of <br /> peas and sweet corn are grown in an area south of Madison <br /> between Verona and Evansville. These crops have a fairly <br /> high value and are subject to many disease and insect prob- <br /> lems. The only practical way to apply pesticides to these <br /> crops is with aerial application. Often times we find it <br /> necessary to have several planes working in the area at a <br /> given time. <br /> If Mr. Weiman was to establish an airstrip on his <br /> property it would prove to be very valuable as an emer- <br /> gency landing site should our applicators experience mech- <br /> 1 apical difficulties. When these planes are loaded it is <br /> very difficult to land them on anything but a strip that has <br /> been maintained. As a major employer in Dane County we <br /> would definitely like to see the Dane County Board and <br /> Zoning Committee approve Mr. Weiman's request to build this <br /> strip. <br /> The relationship we have had with the group at Brooklyn <br /> has always been a good one. We feel if Mr. Weiman is <br /> given the approval to construct an airstrip it should in no <br /> way create any problems for anyone in the area.
