U . P . #605 David Weiman Private airstrip Dear Committee Members : We wish to express our opposition to the proposed airstrip . As was stated in 1986 at the hearings concerning C . U . P . #506 , David Weiman , Private Airstrip , although the area surrounding the proposed airstrip is zoned A-1 , it would be better characterized as residential in nature . We and the area neighbors continue to have concerns about the impact of the airstrip on our homes , children , pets and livestock . We feel that the proposed airstrip is an inappropriate , unnecessary and potentially dangerous use of the land in question . In his letter of 5-13-87 re : permission to resubmit Conditional Use Permit #506 , the Weimans indicate that they have leased an additional two acres of land , adding 850 feet to the airstrip bringing the total runway distance to 1723 feet . As can be seen in the attached safety report from Mead & Hunt obtained for last year ' s hearings , this continues to be inadequate for the Cessna 172 owned by the Weimans at that time . (RE : Mead & Hunt report , paragraph 3 , subparagraph b ) . This data applies only to the Cessna 172 and may not apply to any other aircraft owned by the Weimans or any other individuals who may use the proposed airstrip . Your attention is drawn to the Mead & Hunt report ( paragraph 5 , subparagraph b ) which states "Add adequate runway length to safely operate his (or any other aircraft using his land) in or out under 0 wind and 80 degrees F temperature . " Also in his letter of 5-13-87 , Mr . Weiman states "Additionally , the Town of Oregon and area farmers , through the cooperation of neighbors Feller and Schiller whose properties immediately adjoin ours , assisted us in making improvements to the runway surface and surrounding area . " In our conversations with Mr . Schiller , he states that he does not now nor has he ever supported the proposed airstrip and has not knowingly assisted in making any improvements to the runway surface or surrounding area . ( as indicated by his signature on the attached petition . )
