MEAD AND HUNT INC.
Consulting Engineers
Post Office Box 5247
2320 University Avenue Madison, Wisconsin 53705-5247 608-233-9706
September 10, 1986
Mr. Richard Ashley
1005 Tipperary Road
Oregon, Wisconsin 53575
Subj: Private Airport
Dear Mr. Ashley:
Based on our visual inspection of the turf landing strip which you showed
me on the Weiman property located on Lot 2 of the Certified Survey containing
your property as Lot 1, I have the following comments:
1. Design criteria for a public use runway per the Federal Aviation Admini-
stration (FAA) Advisory Circular (AC) 150/5300-4B, changes 1 through 8,
shows a minimum 2,700 foot paved runway for a Basic Utility Stage I air-
port.
2. Chapter 4, Paragraph 14, c. of AC 150/5300-4B states that runway lengths
may be obtained from the airplane flight manuals. These lengths vary
based on a number of factors including:
a. Temperature, pressure and humidity.
b. Wind direction and speed.
c. Runway gradient and weight of aircraft.
d. Runway surface (turf, dirt or paved) .
3. From the Cessna Model 172P manual dated May 26, 1982 (which may or may
not be the model of Cessna that Mr. Weiman owns) the following lengths
are needed.
a. Takeoff distance (2200 to 2000 lbs. ), dry turf strip (add 15%' to
ground roll ), 68°F, 9 knot headwind (decrease distance 10%) .
1 . Ground roll required is 862 feet.
4 2. To clear a 50 foot object is 1485 feet.
4 b. Takoff distance (Max. weight 2400 lbs. ) dry turf strip (+15%), 68°F,
9 knot headwind (-10%).
1. Ground roll required is 1061 feet.
2. To clear a 50 foot object is 1829 feet.
c. Landing distance same conditions (increase ground roll by 45% in-
stead of 15%).
1. Ground roll required is 751 feet.
2. To clear a 50 foot object is 1437 feet.
I
Founded in 1900
