Section 10.01 Definitions
<br /> a business, trade, profession, commodity, product, person, firm or corporation. For purposes of
<br /> this ordinance a highway marker, symbol, railroad crossing marker or signal, intended for the
<br /> safety of the traveling public, or any device or symbol placed in the highway right of way by or
<br /> with the approval of the governing body of such highway, shall not be considered a sign.
<br /> (34) Sign, Directory: A sign intended to provide essential information to the traveling public
<br /> relative to lodging, food, outdoor recreational, automobile service facilities or other business,
<br /> or to a school, church, institution or public building. Such sign shall contain clear and precise
<br /> directions to the place advertised.
<br /> (35) Slaughter House: Any building or premises used commercially for the killing or dressing
<br /> of cattle, sheep, swine, goats or horses, for human consumption and the storage, freezing and
<br /> curing of meat and the preparation of meat products.
<br /> (36) Story: The vertical distance of a building included between the surface of any floor and
<br /> the floor next above it, or if there be no floor above it, then the space between such floor and
<br /> the ceiling, provided that a basement shall not be considered a story.
<br /> (37) Story, Half: A story under a gable, hip or mansard roof, the wall plates of whihh on at
<br /> two opposite walls are not more than two feet above the floor of such story.
<br /> (38) 'Street; A public or private thoroughfare which afford primary means of access to abut-
<br /> ting property is a street to that property for the purposes of this ordinance, except driveways to.
<br /> buildings. A driveway to a farm building shall not be considered a street for the purpose of de-
<br /> termining setback, even though such driveway may have been designated a town road for the
<br /> purpose of maintenance.
<br /> •(39) Street Line: The dividing line between the street and the lot.
<br /> (40 Structure; Anything erected or constru;ted, the use of which requires more or less perm-
<br /> anent location on the ground. Telephone,telegraph,power poles and lines and other transmission
<br /> and communication lines shall be considered structures for the purpose of determining setback
<br /> from highways.
<br /> (41) Structural Alteration: Any change in the supporting members cf a buntding, such as
<br /> the bearing walls or partitions, columns, beams or girdersm excepting such alterations as may be
<br /> necessary for the safety of the building.
<br /> (42) Tavern: A building or part of a building, open to the public, where fermented malt bev-
<br /> erages and/or intoxicating liquors are sold at retail for consumption on the premises. The fol-
<br /> lowing shall not be considered a tavern: a restaurant where such beverages are sold only at
<br /> tables and only in conjunction with meals; a club, not open to the public, where such beverages
<br /> are sold in conjunction with the operation of the club; premises where malt beverages are sold
<br /> by establi shed or ganizations in conjunction with the operation of a picnic, fair or other amuse-
<br /> ment enterprize. .
<br /> (43) Tourist Camp: An area or premises on which are located permanent buildings, either
<br /> single cabins or buildings comprising two or more units under one roof, togecher with accessory
<br /> buildings, for temporary accomodation of tourists, but not for permanent occupancy except by the
<br /> owner or occupan t of the premises, or his employees.
<br /> (44) 'Ir ailer Camp:.An area or premises on which is provided space for the temporary accomo-
<br /> dation of trailers for tourists, toge ter with the necessary accessory buildings, but not for perm-
<br /> anent occupancy.
<br /> (45) Yard: A space on a lot on which a building is situated, unoccupied except as otherwise
<br /> provided in this .ordinance, open aid unobstructed from the ground.tc.the sky.
<br /> (46) Yard, Rear: An open space, unoccupied except by accessory buildings, extending from
<br /> from the rear line of the building to the rear lot line for the entire width of the lot. On lake.shore
<br /> or water front lots, the water front end of the lot shall be deemed the rear end of the lot for the
<br /> purpose of computing rear.yards required by this ordinance.
