Job Training Center

The Novation Campus redevelopment from its infancy was born out of
collaboration with Dane County and other municipalities.
The proposed Job Training Center was originally a collaborative effort between
the County, ourselves and MATC.
o Common goal was to bring an educational component to the neighborhood
Roles:
o County CDBG staff applied for a competitive federal grant
oWe were to provide the space
o MA TC was to staff it and provide training

The County applied for the funding but MA TC later determined that they could
not staff it. (I think they consolidated their efforts at the villager mall on Park St.)
The grant was later reallocated by the County for two purposes:
o Majority of grant was used as seed money for tenant improvements for a
start-up company
· Shop Bop, was directly out of an incubator
· Now its 100,000 square feet and growing
· Hundreds of jobs (190 jobs in our building alone)
· Huge Economic Development Success story
. Brown shoe left town and it made the papers
. St. Louis offered $40 million
. They also had about 100 s.f.
o Constructed a training and conference room
· U sed by Indian Springs neighborhood association and other public
groups
· Available for contract training on an as needed basis
· Campus amenity, for employers within the campus to have
meetings and provide training
This was fully approved and documented by written agreements with the County

More importantly, we have succeeded in recruiting ITT Technical college to the
campus
o They have 25 classrooms compared to the MA TC two or three previously
proposed.
o They start classes next week
