BACKGROUND <br /> A. Request <br /> Yahara Materials,Inc. is requesting a conditional use permit for a quarry on 50.2 acres of A- <br /> 1(ex)zoned land owned by Obert Ofsthun in the Town of Cottage Grove. The quarry is intended <br /> to serve the State Highways 12 & 18 reconstruction project currently underway. Quarrying <br /> operations would cease after the highway project is complete,at which time the area will be <br /> reflaimed for agricultural use. Reclamation is expected to be complete by July of 1999. <br /> B. History/Past Actions <br /> The ZNR approved a sand and gravel extraction site(CUP 1476, Skaar Scattered Acres), also to <br /> serve the Highway 12 & 18 project,on February 17, 1998. The Skaar Scattered Acres site is <br /> approximately 1,600 feet to the east of the proposed quarry. <br /> C. Site/Locational Information <br /> The property is in the southwest.quarter of the northeast quarter of Section 33 in the Town of <br /> Cottage Grove,at the northeast corner of the intersection of Highways 12 & 18 and County <br /> Highway N. The property has approximately 1,500 feet of frontage on the north side of the <br /> Highway 12 & 18 right of way,and another 1,500 feet of frontage on the east side of County <br /> Trunk N. The Village of Cottage Grove is roughly 3 miles to the north. <br /> The property is currently in farmland, as is most of the surrounding property. One rural <br /> residential lot borders the property on-the north. Four or five scattered residences or farmsteads <br /> and the Skaar Scattered acres mineral extraction site are within 2,000 feet of the property. The <br /> Rolling Wheels and Skyhigh subdivisions are located at a higher elevation approximately 1/2 <br /> mile north. <br /> D. Other federal, state or county approvals required <br /> Erosion control permits under Chapter 14 of the Dane County Code will be required,including <br /> an erosion control plan approved by the county Land Conservation Department. Depending on <br /> the exact location of the quarry in relation to the tributary of Little Door Creek, special exception <br /> permits from the county Board of Adjustments may also be required. <br /> ti <br /> 1 <br />
