w DANE COUNTY
f d N;, LAND CONSERVATION DEPARTMENT
;rte.,- iii `'%
FEN OAK RESOURCE CENTER
15is `g_
1 Fen Oak Ct.,Rm. 208,Madison,Wisconsin 53718-8812
PH: 608/224-3730•FAX: 608/224-3745
DATE: May 20, 1998
TO: Helen Johnson, Chair
Zoning and Natural Resources
Phil Salkin, Chair
Land Conservation Committee.
FROM: Kevin Connors ess.c/
County Conservationist
RE: HERFEUPAYNE &DOLAN REZONE CUP #1484
Dane County Land Conservation has been directed by Zoning and Planning staff to provide
comments on the environmental impacts of the mineral extraction facility proposed by Fitchburg
Minerals LLC, for the Herfel property in the town of Verona.
Our comments address the hydrology, hydraulics and erosion control of the project. At our request,
the consultant, Woodward and Clyde has provided a complete hydrologic study of the site and the
hydraulic analysis of the swales and berms. Also, a complete erosion control plan for the phase I
portion of the project was requested and was provided by the consulting engineering firm to our
office.
At this stage of the project application, it is not customary to provide this extensive detail. It was
our judgment that a detailed plan will answer many of the questions about the project.
The submitted erosion control plan meets the requirement of the 15 points of the Dane County
erosion control ordinance.
We are not in a position to issue a formal approval, due to the status of the conditional use
application. However, with submittal of the required fee, and the appropriate conditional use
approval for the project, the Fitchburg Mineral LLC, phase I project on the Herfel property would
receive the erosion control permit from our office.
RECE
AR:aw ;
cc: Brian Standing, Senior Planner MAY 2 j 1Q04
Mark Roffers, Senior Planner
D.C.PLANNING&DEVELOPN;L`,'
PROPERTY RECORDS
