8. The day after the public hearing on April 28 I was informed that Brenda Gottschalk
went around to get signatures on her petition but never presented the facts to these
people. In fact my understanding is that she claimed that any type of commercial
could be constructed on this property. It is obvious from the deed restriction, which
was included with my zoning petition at the County that this is far from true.
9. The Gottschalks have also questioned whether another greenhouse is needed in the
area. That is not really an issue upon which this rezoning should be judged. How we
choose to invest our money is up to us to decide. Placing this greenhouse business
here is permitted as an agricultural use. In fact I would contend that if Dane County
were interested in maintaining its agricultural basis it encourage alternative
agricultural activities. Failure to do so will most likely result in only large farm
operations and cash cropping by a limited number of operators.
10. The Gottschalks also stated concern over their daughter getting on the bus at 8:00 am
when the greenhouse would open. I find it somewhat insincere since the Gottschalk's
positioned their driveway so that the school bus has to stop half way up a hill and in a
position that the hill extensively blinds drivers to school bus.
11. You have also received a letter from Larry Heiman, which is very inaccurate. Mr.
Heiman claims that approximately one year ago he applied to rezone to C-land and
was turned down. The obvious inference in setting this time frame is that I in
someway denied him rezoning. In fact this rezoning was from 1995 while Darryl
Langer was Town Chairman. In addition from the minutes that I have enclosed it
appears no actual denial was made. The matter was put in abeyance to get additional
information and Mr. Heiman never came back to the Town Board at the following
meeting. If there is more that happened behind the scenes I do not know. But again
Mr. Heiman in his letter is attempting to set a time frame which implies I was
involved in this matter and I was not. Mr. Heiman has never talked to me about
possibly rezoning this parcel.
12. If there is any question as to our dedication to starting this business I hope to put them
to rest. I have enclosed copies of our purchases this year for seed and planting
medium, this approaches $900. Most of the pots and flats we have used we acquired
when we purchased some metal frame greenhouses in 1995, please see the enclosed
copy of that receipt. We currently have three metal frame structures which we will be
placing at this sit this summer.
13. In a previous correspondence I included a copy of the letter which I mailed to the area
residents to allow them to form an opinion based upon the facts. I asked them to reply
whichever way they felt in the matter. As for Louis Klecker talking to the neighbors
he did that on his own. Louie has served on the Town Board for many years and was
born and raised in this area. I do not believe Louie would put his reputation on the
line in this matter if he felt what was proposed were inappropriate.
