1VV4State of Wisconsin 1 DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
Madison Area Headquarters
WISCONSIN 2801 Coho Street, Suite 101
DEPT. OF NATURAL RESOURCES Fitchburg, Wisconsin 53713
George E. Meyer TELEPHONE 608-273-5950
Secretary TELEFAX 608-273-5958
February 7, 1995
Dallas Christensen
Oregon Town Chairman
1292 S. Fish Hatchery Rd.
Oregon WI 53575
Subject: Ronald & Janine Jeidy request for a zoning change and
a Conditional Use Permit for a retreat and campground at
585 Tipperary Road, Section 29, Town of Oregon
Dear Mr. Christensen:
Please be advised that the 34.4 acre parcel subject to the Conditional Use Permit is within the approved
boundaries of the Brooklyn Wildlife Area and the'Story Creek Streambank Protection Acquisition Area.
Story Creek is a Class II trout stream and has been designated high priority for protection. Since the State
has invested hundreds of thousands of dollars in the protection of this stream, we are concerned about any
land use change which may have negative impacts on water quality, flora or fauna within or near the stream.
In addition, the concurrent lands of the Brooklyn Wildlife Area provide habitat for many species of wildlife
as well as outdoor recreation for many Wisconsin citizens.
The Department of Natural Resources buys lands from willing sellers, within boundaries approved by the
governor of Wisconsin. The Department notifies landowners that we would like to have an opportunity to
appraise and make an offer for parcels within the boundary. In the case of the Jeidy parcel, the Department
was not aware of the decision to sell, and had no opportunity to appraise the subject parcel. We remain
interested, however, in pursuing acquisition on lands within approved project boundaries.
Obviously, this self-interest prevents the department from actively supporting or opposing the Jeidy sale to a
third party. Although the Department remains neutral on the approval for a Conditional Use Permit and
Zoning change requested for the parcel, we would like the Town of Oregon to be alert to any deleterious
environmental impacts which may result from the proposed use.
Sincerely,
Doris A. Rusch
Area Wildlife Manager
•
Printed on
Recycled
Paper
