/ /4 7
Dane County Zoning Administrator
Mazomanie Town Chair
Roxbury Town Chair
Dear Sirs:
I understand a 25-year old restriction against subdividing has recently lapsed in Roxbury
Township and some landowners are proceeding with permit requests for development. My
concern is about potential development in Sections 13 and 24 of Mazomanie Township and
Sections 19 and 30 of Roxbury Township.
The Department of Natural Resources owns significant acreage in this vicinity(600 acres) and are
currently undertaking expensive land investments to restore the historic Battle of Wisconsin
Heights to its 1832 condition. This particular site has extraordinary significance to the settlement
of the region and the end of the Black Hawk War was instrumental to the establishment of
Territorial status and, eventually, statehood. Contrary development could have devastating impact
on this precious resource.
My purpose in calling this to your attention is to insure you are aware of the existence of this
historical site and that its protection is a consideration in any decision-making for this vicinity.
I am available to provide additional information about the site and would welcome the
opportunity to discuss the matter further as you deem appropriate.
Sincerely,
David L. Gjestson
Policy and Planning Analyst
Bureau of Land and Facilities
cc: Douglas Fendry-LF/4
Rick Wojciak-SCR
Wayne Schutte-Tower Hill
•
