III. The'Kids Express Learning Center
A. Ages of Students/ Hours of Operation
The Kids Express Learning Center, an academically innovative
preschool/kindergarten, has been designed to serve children ages 2.5 through
6 or 7. Our core program will be offered between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and
3:30 p.m. with a before and after school option available to assist working
parents who desire additional hours of instruction/care for their children.
Our before school option would be offered one-half hour before school begins
(7:30 - 8:00) and our after school option would be offered for two hours (3:30 -
5:30). The after school option will also be open to children up to age 12 whose
parents wish to enroll them for academic tutoring and/or enrichment
programing.
B. The Physical Plant
The current school building, measuring 1800 square feet, has been
inspected by State Building Inspector, Charlotte Thompson. A copy of her
Day Care Center Inspection report is included in Appendix A. Prior to
opening our center, we will, of course, meet all necessary state requirements
as noted on Ms. Thompson's report.
We have made plans to add on to the current structure. Those additions
include increasing the size of the cloak room/entry foyer at the building's
north end to 318 square feet, adding a solarium on the east side (954
square feet), and a solarium on the south side (327 square feet) (See Drawing
A). Discussions regarding these improvements have included private
contractors along with the following government officials: Town of
Middleton Building Inspector Jeff Curtis Crocket; Town of Middleton
Plumbing Inspector, Art Stark; Perry Dahl from Dane County Environmental
Health; and Charlotte Thompson, State Building Inspector. These
professionals will help us by insuring that all additions/renovations meet
required safety and health codes.
Rest room facilities within the current 1800 square foot facility will be
remodeled and upgraded in accordance with the Wisconsin Administrative
Code HSS 55 ( Licensing Rules for Group Day Care Centers) and will meet
requirements of Dane County Environmental Health (Perry Dahl, Inspector)
and Town of Middleton (Art Stark, Inspector).
A playground measuring 2,500 square feet will be constructed at the
southeastern section of our lot (See Drawing A). A chain link fence will be
constructed to surround the playground equipment and toys.
Access to the school will be via a shale road that runs along the northern
border of our lot line leading from High Point Road to the school parking lot
