Erosion Control:
Erosion control on the site shall follow the Wis D.N.R. Best Management Practices and
all Wis. D.O.T. requirements. Erosion control shall be installed per the attached site plan
and detail sheets. These sheets detail the erosion control consisting of temporary and
permanent seeding, silt fence, settling basins, tracking pads at access road, and ditch
dikes.
During construction, interim erosion control devices such as silt fence, erosion bales,
erosion mat, and ditch checks will be utilized to control any erosion. The site shall be
monitored daily and especially after any rainfall. The erosion control devices shall be
supplemented or corrected if any deficiencies are noted. Construction sedimentation
basins will be constructed as shown to control runoff. Interim erosion control devices
shall typically be installed prior to beginning construction.
Topsoil dikes and silt fence will be constructed around the perimeter of borrow sites, and
sites will be seeded as soon as possible. Borrow sites will be stripped of topsoil with silt
fence placed around the site at drainage areas before disturbing the site. The topsoil
stripping piles shall be placed to direct any runoff to the settling basins (see site plan).
Upon completion of excavation in the borrow site for 1997 and upon completion in 1998,
the area will be retopsoiled and reseeded.
Temporary slopes will have silt fence placed at the bottom to contain erosion and
siltation, and will be temporarily seeded as directed by the state project engineer. The
exact locations of temporary erosion control devices can be found in the site plan. Upon
completion, slopes will be finished, topsoiled, seeded, fertilized, and mulched as soon as
possible to prevent further erosion. Exposed excavations will be monitored for wind
erosion.
Special care will be taken in the wetland areas near Hwy 12/18 and the tributary to Little
Door Creek.. This will include pre-placement of silt fence in these areas before
construction starts and erosion mat after construction starts. In addition, sediment basins
will be constructed along the entire length of the borrow pit to collect runoff.
Petroleum products will be delivered daily to the project site by local petroleum
distributors. Special care will be taken in the handling of petroleum products. If such a
spill should occur, it will be immediately contained by an earth dike. The contaminated
soil will be removed to an appropriate disposal site and contact will be made to the
Wisconsin DNR in the event of a spill. Waste oil from maintenance of the equipment
shall be collected and removed from the site.
